La llegada del curso escolar implica el inicio de nuevas actividades vinculadas con el aprendizaje de idiomas. Ayer, los alumnos del IES As Barxas recibieron a la que será su auxiliar de inglés, Lydia Shippen, al son de las tradicionales gaitas. Además de este sonido tan característico de la cultura gallega, los estudiantes también elaboraron una pancarta para recibir a esta joven del estado de Carolina del Norte.
El creativo y cálido recibimiento sorprendió a la joven ayudante de conversación, que llega a Moaña dispuesta a desempeñar una tarea imprescindible para el desarrollo de las capacidades lingüísticas de los alumnos.
Además de servir como un apoyo a la hora de aprender este nuevo idioma, la estadounidense también trasladará a los estudiantes algunos aspectos sobre su cultura y su día a día en su país natal.
Este es el primer año que el instituto moañés de As Barxas cuenta con la ayuda de personal nativo para mejorar la competencia comunicativa en inglés. Otros centros de la comarca ya disfrutaron de este especial apoyo de jóvenes extranjeros durante los cursos pasados y todos destacan que se trata de una experiencia muy positiva para profesores y alumnos. De hecho, algunos de los auxiliares deciden repetir experiencia durante un segundo curso escolar.
La joven Lydia Shippen estará en el instituto de Moaña hasta el próximo mes de mayo y está previsto que participe de forma activa e intensiva en las secciones bilingües. No obstante, está previsto que desarrolle actividades con todos los grupos del centro, que tendrán la posibilidad de beneficiarse de tan valiosa presencia.
Alumnos
Desde el departamento de Secciones Bilingües del instituto resaltan la vital importancia que tiene esta nueva incorporación para las clases de idiomas. Aseguran que se trata de una "valiosa" aportación en un momento en el que se detecta un incremento considerable en el número de alumnos por aula. Precisamente este aumento de estudiantes dificulta la tarea de los profesores de lenguas extranjeras, que contarán por primera vez con un estupendo apoyo proveniente de América.

HOW TO WRITE A SUMMARY

To write a good summary it is important to understand the text, so you may need to read it several times. Once you have done that, follow these tips:

Ø  Highlight/Underline the main ideas in the text. They do not always come at the beginning of the text. 

Ø   Rememember you should be answering questions such as Who? What? When? Where? Why? How? 

Ø  Combine the main ideas together in your own words. That is to say PARAPHRASE THOSE IDEAS. Relative pronouns will be useful.As well as some linkers.

Ø  Do not include your own opinion or add extra information.

Ø  Keep your summary short. It will depend on the length of the original text though. No more than one third of length (1/3)

Ø  The text should flow when you read it aloud.

Ø  You can start your summary with sentences such as: The text is about…. The text deals with…

Ø  If you are writing the summary of an article,  you should mention the author. “In the article “….” by  “…” we learn/ the author shows…/informs…/declares…/states…/claims...

Ø  Check grammar, punctuation, spelling.

WRITE A SUMMARY OF THE TEXT

Read the text and the instructions to the questions very carefully. Answer all the questions in English.

If you adopt a dog, you and your new pet will spend the first couple of weeks "getting to know one another". He doesn't know why he has come to your home or what is expected of him. Please be patient with him and anticipate problems before they occur. Don't leave tempting shoes, clothing, or children's toys within reach of your dog. If he is left out in your backyard while you work, please understand the first few days will be rough on him. Try to leave the home with as little fanfare as possible. Tearful goodbyes do nothing but add to your dog’s anxiety.

When he’s first settling in, your dog may experience shyness, anxiety, restlessness, excitement, crying or barking. He may exhibit excessive water drinking, frequent urination, or diarrhoea. His appetite may not be good. If any of these symptoms last more than a few days, call your veterinarian.

Your new dog must learn a whole set of new rules. Be patient and be consistent. If you want him off the furniture, don't allow him to sit on the couch "sometimes". Don't allow him to do something one time and forbid it another.

A training lesson with your dog half-an-hour a day will teach him the simple obedience commands so necessary in having a well-behaved pet. Just as we must teach our children manners, so we must also teach our pet.

Within a week or two, your dog will have settled into his new home and his new routine. Some will take a little longer. Very few are unable to adjust at all.

WE WILL ROCK YOU. THE MUSICAL

This fantastic show was first premiered in the West End in 2002.  However, the idea for the show goes back to the 1990’s when Queen’s manager, Jim Beach approached comic Ben Elton with an idea for a ‘jukebox’ style musical.  Two members of Queen, Brian May and Roger Taylor then collaborated with Elton on this project.  However, when it comes to the rather unusual storyline then credit must go to Ben Elton who suggested putting together a frankly weird storyline to Queen’s music.
From its first beginnings, this show has grown to be one of the most popular musicals in the West End.  It features many of the greatest hits by Queen, in fact, more than 25 of their songs are used and these include such memorable hits as ‘Radio Ga Ga’, ‘I Want To Break Free’, ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ and of course, ‘We Will Rock You’.
A look at a dystopian future with echoes of Orwell’s ‘Big Brother’, this musical will have you singing along to the fantastic tunes as well as cheering on the rebels in their fight to win back live music!
The setting for the musical is 300 years in the future.  Planet Earth has been renamed ‘Planet Mall’ and is ruled by the repressive Globalsoft Corporation.  The head of this totalitarian regime is the Killer Queen.  The regime has stifled personal freedom and individualism.  Conformity is the norm.  This is a planet in which there is no personal expression: every citizen looks the same, dresses the same and even thinks the same! 
All forms of creative expression are banned which includes live music.  Only the official music, available as a download via the Corporation’s computers is allowed.  This is an age of manufactured music which is then played by boy/girl bands.  Innovation is banned.  Invention is banned.  Music is programmed and then played.
Any attempt to produce original material is suppressed.  All acts of subversion are punished by Corporation brainwashing.
However, not everyone falls into line and a group of ‘freedom fighters’ have sworn to oppose the totalitarian regime and win back live music, free thought and personal freedom in general.
Named ‘The Bohemians’, this motley crew which includes two heroes, Scaramouche and Galileo, set out on a journey to bring back the good times, a golden age of music and creativity which they named ‘Rhapsody’.  A time when people wrote their own songs and formed their own bands.  A time of live music!
They are aided in their quest by a character called ‘Pop’, a former Bohemian, and together they search for the ‘Mighty Axe of The Hairy One’ which is a guitar hidden in a wall of the now derelict Wembley Stadium.  This guitar belonged to a great guitar god and if found will restore that golden age.
Who is that powerful god?  Is it one of the Bohemians?  Is it Galileo? 
Whoever it is, our intrepid explorers are pursued by the official ‘Ga Ga’ Cops who are determined to arrest Galileo before parading him in front of the notorious Killer Queen.  Her judgement will be a harsh one: condemned to oblivion across the Seven Seas of Rye. 
A fate worse than death! Do are heroes find the mighty axe?  Do they manage to thwart the evil Killer Queen and bring back live music and freedom to the citizens of Planet Mall?
This not to be missed musical will provide those answers and many more!
