INTERVIEWING PILGRIMS IN TEIS. 1st ESO students from the bilingual section

And finally the last video! My students are interviewing pilgrims in TEIS on their way to Santiago de Compostela. The activity took place on June  6th but a lot of work had been done before and a bit more had to be done afterwards. Their last oral exam was to tell me what they had found out about the people they had interviewed. Please, have a look at all the process in the video. I hope you will enjoy it.

I am glad to show you the project done by some of the amazing students I have been teaching for four years.  It is a collaboration between History ( Mercedes Martín ) and myself. The video shows some examples of the work they can do.  They are not all here but they are all outstanding. So proud of you!

THE BREADWINNER BY DEBORAH ELLIS. 3 ESO

Some of you have already started reading The breadwinner but before going on I would like to ask you to do some research about he country and the people you will be reading about.

Let"s work in small groups to make it easier and faster. Shall we look for information to answer the following questions? 

Where is Afghanistan?  A map can be useful.
Area and population  ( compare it with your own country Galicia/Spain)
 What is their recent history?  A timeline of events may be clarifying.
What languague/s do Afghans speak?
What is the situation of the women/girls?
Religion/s ?
Main ethnic groups?

TheTalibans, who are they, when did they rule the country?

What is the relationship between our countries?

Find out about the author and why she has written this story.

WATCHING THE VIDEO TOGETHER AT LAST

Last year, students from 2nd and 3rd ESO researched about gender  inequality and its evolution during the last years. As part of this project, they interviewed their grandmothers and elderly women from DomusVi Home.

A video documentary was edited by three students (Xabier, Sabela and Victoria).

On Monday, as part of the activities to commemorate International Women’s Day, those students and two teachers visited the protagonists of the research and screened the video. A calendar with photographs of the protagonists had also been made and it was given to them.

It was really moving to see them again and realise how much energy they have despite their age, some of them in their late nineties. 
Amazing how much we can learn from them.

Galicia: Your travel destination. 2 ESO

In pairs you are going to write a report about different towns and places to visit in Galicia: Santiago de Compostela, A Coruña, Pontevedra, Baiona, Vigo...Choose a place, find and inviting title and start creating a text where you can mention:

Women Writers Day

Did you know there was a day in Spain to celebrate Women writers? 
Did you know it is today?
Well, I didn't. I learnt it this afternoon  while I was listening to  "relatos en cadena",  a programme on the radio (Cadena Ser) where you  can send  your micro-stories and the best of the week are read and one is chosen out of three.

The Women Writers Day is a commemoration which began in 2016 in Spain to make the work of women in literature visible and combat the discrimination they have suffered throughout history.

This reminded me  one of the projects I would like you to develop this academical year: 
Find out about women who have used  a pseudonym to see their pieces of work published.
And I can't avoid thinking of the Brontë sisters. But there are so many examples!!!
Can you think of any?

Relatos en cadena

2º ESO

One of the last activities 1 ESO students from the bilingual section had to do during the third term last year was a writing to show they could use the simple past in context. They wrote about a member of the family and when I read them I found them so interesting that encouraged them to do an oral presentation that I filmed. Only a few participated as we were all short of time. I am very proud of their work and how much they improved last year.
I would like to thank the students who participated. I would also like to thank the grandparents who  let me use their photos for this small project.
I think your stories are amazing and worth to be told and  passed on to your grandchildren.
I hope you like it.

Pizza and biscuits. We won’t starve. We can cook! 1 ESO A

Adriana      and Sandra have proved they are excellent cooks. They can prepare pizza😍😍

     And they also baked biscuits for dessert, so they are ready to help at home with dinners!!!
                Aren't the biscuits cute? I would eat them all😋😋!!

A few days ago it was the turn of Hector  and Dani. They showed us how to make brownies. They looked great!

READERS

 This year a good bunch of students have read books which were not abridged. They have later either prepared an oral presentation or  an oral test. Some have also prepared a short review to encourage classmates to read them. A few have even  let me film them so I will upload those videos soon. 

Lucía from 2 Bach B  explained how she felt reading "Call me by your name",  the plot and the diferences with the film, which she has also seen. Well done!!

  

DELICIOUS BISCUITS BAKED BY IVAN AND ROI 1 ESO B

This week Roi and Ivan showed us their video explaining how to make delicious biscuits. It was  very interesting but just a bit long and their classmates were  anxious and very worried in case they didn't have time to eat them! It was amazing!. They brought biscuits for everybody, very nicely wrapped too.  Well done!!! 

Thank you soooo much, and thanks to those mums who are at home helping their kids.

Just remember you only have to explain how to make the recipe briefly and you don't have to bring anything. 

You should also remember you have to make sure the pronunciation is correct. Check it with me or Katie or "Text into voice" in this blog

AMAZING PERFORMANCE OF OUR STUDENTS EVA AND CLAUDIA FROM 3 ESO AT THE SPEELING BEE COMPETITION

This morning in class before the competition.

It was super exciting to see Eva and Claudia on stage! Fantastic work! IES ROU must be very proud of you.  

Both passed the two rounds beating students from private and public secondary schools in Vigo.

Claudia was 2nd!!! Congratulations!!! It was a privilege to be with you this afternoon and evening.
Congratulations to your previous teachers too!!!

My 1st ESO A students say what they usually have for lunch

We are leaning how to talk about meals and food. Some of my students from 1 ESO A have answered the question: What do you usually have for lunch?

I think they are great! Some may not sound very fluent but I think they were just nervous. We have to work on pronunciation with words like "chocolate", "fruit", "vegetables", "ribs" and try to soften "have" "for" in some cases but very proud of you!!!
