Activities 3rd WEEK Corona Lockdown

I am going to propose work just for 1-2 days. I hope we will have sorted out all the codes for interactive books and you will be registered by Wednesday. I will then give you a new task.

You have heard me saying similar things to what Bruce sings. Listen  how he starts...

"Well, we bursted out of class
Had to get away from those fools (hahaha US, TEACHERS)
We learned more from a three-minute record, baby
Than we ever learned in school"

And then a bit further down:

Now on the street tonight the lights grow dim
The walls of my room are closing in
There's a war outside still raging
You say it ain't ours anymore to win
I want to sleep beneath
Peaceful skies in my lover's bed
With a wide open country in my eyes
And these romantic dreams in my head

Jimmy Kimmel’s Quarantine Minilogue. Saint Patrick's day

I didn't think of Saint Patrick's either. An Irish friend sent me a message late that night and again I couldn't believe I was so out of the world.
Today I found this short video in which you can see Jimmy Kimmel telling us he is going through the same situation as everyone else and shares his quarantine. You may like to watch it with the subtitles. He has been uploading one minilogue everyday.

Xoubiñas Pie

Hi there!!! I haven't stopped a minute. What a productive lockdown!. I hope you are organised, working for school in the morning, helping at home with house chores and also doing all those things we never have enough time to do (music, films, TV series, games...). There are hundreds of interesting proposals these days to be entertained.
Don't forget to be in touch with friends and relatives. Make sure they are fine and offer all the support from your phones or computers.
Among the things I have been doing is the following video.
Cooking for friends and family is an act of love but editing is a nightmare that can take days when you are as unskilled as me.
I hope you enjoy it and decide to cook for your families too.
Take care. Thinking of you.

ARE YOU WASHING YOUR HANDS PROPERLY? I PROMISE I AM. I HAVE BEEN FOR A WEEK AT LEAST

THE SEVEN STEPS TO WASH YOUR HANDS PROPERLY.
I have been doing that lately as I am going through a flu process which kept me home today, not Corona as far as I know... but a virus after all.
Jimmy Kimmel had dedicated a few minutes to this task a couple of years ago. So, let's learn the lesson.

The rapid spread of the Coronavirus is worrying  everywhere. Even before reading this article from the The Guardian I had thought about the situation in USA where lots of workers are not paid when they are sick or are not entitled to go to emergencies and have some tests done unless they are ready to pay enormous amounts of money and get into medical debt.
Obama, tried to reform health care in USA and Obamacare became law.
What is the situation nowadays? If you are interested, Let's ask Katie.
Obama's common sense precautions:

The first feminists in history?

"Sharing stories is often the way that sparks new ways of thinking about things we take for granted." that is what Joyce Meyer says in her article
about Laura Swan's book about the Beguines

Adult women during the Middle Ages were expected to live either as a wife and mother, or dedicated to the Church and living in a convent as a nun. The Beguines questioned this concept and lived outside of these set boundaries. Women who entered Beguinages (Beguine houses and/or convents) were not bound by permanent vows, in contrast to women who entered convents. They could enter Beguinages having already been married and with children and they could leave the Beguinages to marry.

Meyer mentions in her article that

“The movement began in Belgium sometime in the mid 1100s and created much controversy. Who could accept that women might live a life of prayer, dedication to God and service to the poor outside canonically recognized Benedictine or Dominican cloisters and governed by men? Unthinkable!
Without the securities of cloistered life, the Beguines developed businesses to support themselves and their ministries to the poor, particularly women and children. Most lived alone, sometimes near a church, and others lived in small communities. The women did not make formal vows but remained celibate for life or as long as they chose and designed their own “way of life.” As this new life style developed and attracted members, Beguine villages were built, some of which are still standing today.”
Very interesting to know what happened during the Inquisition with them too.
Short video with info about the Beguines

and in case you were very interested in the topic, a longer one

Reading club. THE CURIOUS INCIDENT OF THE DOG IN THE NIGHT-TIME

Our first meeting went well. All the students who attended (some were missing)  had read the first part of the book. They were happy to answer questions and comment on the plot.
Yes!  I had bought a cake and chocolate croissants for dessert.
Next meeting will be on Friday 6th.
BRITISH TEA AND BISCUITS WILL BE SERVED😊

WATCHING THE VIDEO TOGETHER AT LAST

Last year, students from 2nd and 3rd ESO researched about gender  inequality and its evolution during the last years. As part of this project, they interviewed their grandmothers and elderly women from DomusVi Home.

A video documentary was edited by three students (Xabier, Sabela and Victoria).
On Monday, as part of the activities to commemorate International Women’s Day, those students and two teachers visited the protagonists of the research and screened the video. A calendar with photographs of the protagonists had also been made and it was given to them.

It was really moving to see them again and realise how much energy they have despite their age, some of them in their late nineties.
Amazing how much we can learn from them.

TO WATCH THE VIDEO, CLICK ON THE PHOTOGRAPH

A summary of the activity can be seen in the video edited by Cándido with  photos from Javier's camera
